I recently had the fortune of working for one of my dream clients, The New York Times Book Review. This illustration was done to accompany a review of Adam Ross' collection of short stories, Ladies and Gentlemen.
One of the common features between the stories was that they all contained nested stories: characters would tell tales to each other, or recount their experiences. As a result, each short story was its own collection of short stories. I chose to illustrate the moment in the book that was most powerful to me: a house-sitter snoops through the homeowners' correspondence and uncovers the tale of their rocky, depression-riddled marriage.
