Back from vacation (more to come on that)!
Here's a quick project I did for Act3--it's for a web fundraising program for a national sorority. One thing I love about being an illustrator: waking up at 5am for an international flight, to an email requesting "A running giraffe. Wearing a new year's party hat and blowing a noisemaker or a confetti bomb or something festive. Need it today" Little logistical challenges can be one of the most stressful parts of the job, but also what makes them fun and interesting.
At the gate, I drew the linework in my sketchbook. I scanned it to my laptop during boarding. Digitally colored it in the air, between bites of peanuts and sips of soda. With a fortunate single bar of free Wifi, I was able to send in the final art during a brief layover. I think the flight attendants thought I was a crazy person, hunched over my computer drawing a festive giraffe.
Maybe I'll try this more often: give myself a ridiculous assignment to complete during a day of travel. If nothing else, it definitely makes the grind of international air-travel more bearable.
